Grand Canyon University's Welcome Programs is seeking to fill a Graduate Assistant position for the 2024-2026 academic years to assist with various tasks in new student program development. This position will support new students in their transition to college and further the mission of the Department of Welcome Programs through various events, initiatives, and projects. Graduate Assistants are required to be accepted to and matriculate through a master’s level program at GCU. The Graduate Assistant position offers a full master’s degree tuition waiver. This is a commitment through the duration of the Graduate Degree completion at GCU.
What you will do:
- Build and coordinate Herd Camp programming and logistics that prepares newly registered students for campus life.
- Under the advisement of the Program Development Coordinator, recruit, train, manage, and mentor student leaders (Orientation Leaders). Execute the logistics of leadership development for these students, which involve presentations and trainings.
- Collect and analyze data through a variety of means (e.g., surveys, focus groups) to provide feedback for management in assessing the impact of programs.
- Provide support for other the other operations and events within the Department of Welcome Programs, including New Student Orientation, Welcome Week, Spring Welcome Week, Lopes Out Week, and other programs as needed.
- Facilitate collaborative efforts with campus partners and vendors.
- Maintain and expand knowledge of relevant systems, platforms, and resources to aid in managing and facilitating organizational details.
What you will need:
- Excellent planning and organizational skills to coordinate complex projects with attention to detail and timeliness.
- Ability to effectively manage, motivate, unite, and train a diverse team according to department learning outcomes and goals.
- Curriculum design skills; able to craft logical and meaningful programming material.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work and produce results operating in a fast-paced environment while remaining flexible, proactive, and resourceful.
- Self-motivated with the capacity to work independently and proactively.
- Be admitted to a graduate degree program at GCU. (Certificate only programs do not satisfy this requirement.)
- Maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0. (If a student is newly admitted to the University, the admission GPA is considered for this requirement.)
- Be enrolled in as a "regular" (not provisional) degree-seeking student for at least 6 graduate level units leading to the degree. (Undergraduate or audited courses do not satisfy this requirement.) Hiring departments may require a higher enrollment
- Assistantships may be revoked at any time duties are not fulfilled satisfactorily
- Because of the role as student and employee, graduate assistants assume responsibility for upholding the University’s Student Code of Conduct
- Graduate Assistants are eligible for waiver of tuition for the period employed. Waiver of tuition may be taxable income
- Graduate Assistants must follow the HR employment workflow processes and pre-employment background checks
- Graduate Assistants have restricted work hours (maximum of 29 hours per week)
- After all degree requirements for the planned program of study are met, a student is no longer eligible to receive a graduate assistantship
- "Incomplete" grades must be removed during the period following the teaching period in which the "I" was recorded in order to continue the assistantship
- Graduate Assistants are part-time employees and not eligible for GCU’s employment benefits, except those stipulated by law
