Student Disability Services - Housing Administrator

Responsible to ensure compliance with federal and state requirements and regulations as well as University policies and procedures related to disabled student programs and services administration, with special attention given to the implementation of housing accommodations.

Location: Main Campus, 33rd and Camelback Phoenix, Arizona

What you will do:

  • Responsible for development and implementation of disability policies, procedures, and programs as they relate to individuals with disabilities.

  • Help evaluate and monitor disability compliance with ADA/ADAAA/Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and applicable Special Education laws and regulations as it relates to individuals with disabilities.

  • Maintain compliance with HUD, Fair Housing, and laws required to ensure equal access to GCU housing offerings.

  • Remain up to date on all pending disability legislation and changing legal mandates which would affect the University’s responsibility to provide services and accommodations to students with disabilities.

  • Research disabled student grievances related to housing and animal concerns; as well as, enrollment, withdrawals, tuition reimbursement, final grades, classroom misconduct, classroom policies, instructor issues and plagiarism charges.

  • Intervene both proactively and reactively to assist student or staff member with any aspect of the accommodation process. Negotiate alternative resolutions to unusual situations related to disability issues.

  • Create and maintain effective, cooperative, and collegial relationships with state, county and local offices, departments and/or agencies that provide serves to individuals with disabilities.

  • Accurately record all student interactions within university systems.

  • Implement tracking mechanisms to monitor student load, performance metrics, and various interactions.

  • Provide comprehensive accessibility knowledge support to various university departments, ensuring compliance with HUD/ADA law, and ensure accessibility needs are being considered.

  • Maintain a productive relationship with various university departments including but not limited to Housing, Facilities and Residence Life.

  • Understand the laws and research governing Emotional Support Animals and Service Animals to ensure compliance with ADA/FHA laws for the University.

  • Guide students with dietary concerns through the various campus food offerings; working in conjunction with food staff, the university dietician, and the interactive process.

  • Enforcing campus animal policy including random checks for compliance and submitting violations to Code of Conduct for review.  

  • Respond to all communication within 24-48 business hours.

  • Engage in direct, face-to-face interactions with students to provide housing guidance, support, and mentorship; as well as occasional academic support.

  • Facilitate and engage with students in the interactive process to address accommodations and support their academic housing needs effectively.

  • Promptly answer incoming phone calls and diligently return missed calls and voicemails to ensure effective communication with stakeholders.

  • Consistently achieve and maintain optimal productivity levels month over month to meet organizational goals.

  • Other duties as assigned.

What you need:

  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution.

  • A minimum of 2-3 years’ work experience in a role which involves handling of complex customer service issues.  Prefer experience in higher education and previous handling of accommodations for disabled individuals.

  • Occasional weekends, evening or holiday work may occur.

  • Must pass a pre-employment background investigation.

  • Provide a positive example to students by supporting the University’s Doctrinal Statement, Ethical Position Statement and Mission of Grand Canyon University.
