Special Events Planner

Do you have a passion for coordinating events and ensuring guests have a great experience? If so, this may be the position for you! Grand Canyon University is seeking a Special Events Planner. This person is responsible for supporting and handling aspects of a larger scale (500+ person in attendance) external and internal campus events. The Special Events Planner provides advice on how to best design the event to achieve the required business goals.
What you will do:
Hold event planning meetings with organizing committees to assist with planning scope and format of events, while coordinating auxiliary services for events including: transportation, facilities, catering, signage, displays, special needs requirements, printing, and event security.
Provide event strategy and choreography insight for internal GCU/GCE events and for potential external events.
Ensure all details are coordinated and planned for meeting necessary timelines.
Provide projections of potential estimated costs and prepare requests for vendor bids and reviews bids for competitiveness.
Monitor event activities to ensure satisfaction of participants, performance of staff and objectives have been met.
Assist with scheduling staff, as needed.
Other duties as assigned.
What you need:
Bachelor’s degree in event planning, communications, marketing, promotions, or similar program from a regionally accredited institution preferred.
Two years’ work experience in a similar event coordinating capacity with planning, organizing, and executing larger scale events, including concerts.
Proven advanced event planning and organizing/project management skills for large and complex events.
Strong project management, customer service and relationship building skills; ability to interact with all levels of management and diverse community of customers.
Must be able to work varying schedules including evenings, holidays, and weekends.
Proficient with MS Office software programs including PowerPoint, Word, and Excel. Including AutoCAD design.
Must have valid Arizona driver’s license with a clean driving record.
