GCU is looking for a fulltime Senior Lighting Technician. Under general direction, provides technical support to campus and arena events by way of setup, integration, operation and maintenance of various lighting and/or video equipment as well as assist in larger audio related set ups.

Start Pay: $24 DOE

What You Will Do:

  • Set up and configuration of lighting systems for live production including lighting plots and designs.

  • Responsible for operation of and programming of manual and computer-controlled lighting systems and consoles for live event production.

  • Confer with event sponsor to get cues and directions for lighting/sound activities during live production.

  • Assist with planning of show and stage layouts for each event as it pertains to production and lighting design.

  • Responsible for preventive maintenance and basic corrective and preventative maintenance on all components related to lighting systems.

  • Participates in meetings to gain knowledge of audio/video/lighting requirements needed for future events and ensuring that all equipment is on hand and ready to use. In the instances where needed equipment is not available, initiates dialogue with vendors about possible rental and alternative solutions; makes recommendations to GCU management for approval of rental equipment to accommodate event needs.

  • Provide recommendations, when requested, regarding lighting/video needs for events and future growth plans.

  • Observes all OSHA safety precautions and requirements.

What You Will Have:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience working in an event venue where lighting and sound production is required; events requiring lighting plots and lighting designs.

  • Must have served as primary lighting technician.

  • Ability to lift, move and carry up to 45 pounds alone and up to 90 pounds assisted and ability to run cabling when necessary and set up all necessary equipment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field and/or specialty school certification preferred.

  • Certificate or course work in Lighting Design, Live lighting production or related field, preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Basic understanding of lighting concepts and live lighting procedures.

  • Able to generate lighting plots and create lighting designs.

  • Skilled in lighting desk operation.

  • Basic understanding of lighting and video signal routing.

  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of moving lights programming and design including various products (High End systems, Chauvet Professional equipment, and Elation lighting, etc.)

  • Intermediate knowledge of audio systems

  • Highly proficient in equipment repair utilizing basic and micro tools, multi meters and soldering equipment.

  • Ability to troubleshoot and investigate equipment issues and determine best course of action for repair.

  • Ability to quickly determine problem and provide solution during event to guarantee audio production is uninterrupted.

  • Ability to be a team player.

  • Ability to work under pressure and maintain steady, professional demeanor during live events.

  • Willingness and ability to work non-traditional hours including nights, weekends, holidays, special events depending on Arena schedules.
