Job Description

Grand Canyon University is seeking a Senior Campus Safety Manager to be responsible for the indirect supervision of Campus Safety Guards, Campus Safety Supervisors, and direct supervision of functional management to include Campus Safety Managers.  Provide highly complex staff assistance to the Public Safety senior management for day to day operations.  Work requires considerable judgment in the interpretation and application of rules, regulations, laws, and ordinances.  Latitude is permitted for independent action within the framework of GCU and legal requirements and policies.  Responsible for decision making in the absence of the Director and/or Assistant Director of the department.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership to staff to further the University and department’s goals and objectives.
  • Supervise, direct, discipline and train staff for all University safety and security functions, carrying out the policies, rules and regulations of the University, Arizona state codes and statutes, Federal and local laws/ordinances which may include security vendors and/or staff.
  • Assist with the planning of headcount budgeting to ensure safety coverage meets minimal standards.
  • Participate in disaster planning and training and organizes the functions and activities of emergency personnel, staff, and external security and safety agencies in the event of a disaster.
  • Operate available University/campus transportation means, radio transmitters/receivers, mobile electronic devices, computers, software, bicycles, and carts.
  • Responsible for the appearance, discipline and efficiency of security and safety operations staff.
  • May serve as operational head at special events conducted by the University and/or community.
  • May direct/organize investigations and documentation of University policy violations and case management on University property.
  • Will be assigned overall responsibility for investigation and documentation of campus complaints, accidents, and other sensitive incidents, determining the proper methods of physical security, analysis and identification work necessary to gather facts; reviewing reports and other data submitted; and assisting GCU Police, Federal, State, City, County agencies in investigations.
  • Serve as liaison with other internal departments regarding campus safety and serve on the Behavioral Intervention Team in the absence of the Director or Assistant Director.
  • May be required to make decisions on University Public Safety matters or questions of University policy in the absence of the Director or Assistant Director of Public Safety.
  • Render aid when necessary including first aid, CPR, etc. 
  • Will be assigned on call coverage and flexible work schedules to ensure management coverage at all times.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university.
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Ten (10) years’ experience as a Public Safety Officer or a similar capacity including (5) years supervisory experience.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must have valid Arizona Driver’s License and clean driving record.
  • Must respond and be available for on call and/or emergency coverage as required.
