Grand Canyon Theological Seminary at Grand Canyon University is seeking applicants for a full-time Seminary Director with faculty responsibilities to begin in the summer of 2023. The Director will manage events, host local pastors and guests, coordinate activities, and oversee classroom environments and staff within the seminary facility. This position provides leadership and hospitality in the development of strategic relationships with local churches and ministries in alignment with the mission and commitment of the seminary to serve the ecclesial community. The Director reports to the Dean and works closely with the seminary’s Assistant Dean and faculty to incorporate and integrate all academic, spiritual, and practical aspects of the seminary’s curricular and co-curricular programming. This 12-month position is administrative but entails a teaching load, primarily at the graduate level, related to practical ministry and pastoral leadership. While most courses will be taught in the traditional ground classroom, willingness and ability to teach some online courses is important. Committee work, course/program development, and other types of faculty service will be expected.

What you will do:

  • Provides leadership and hospitality in the development of strategic relationships with local churches and ministries in ways that serve and support the ecclesial community.

  • Coordinates and hosts co-curricular events and activities that facilitate relationships between church leaders, faculty, students, and alumni.  

  • Manages classroom spaces and the larger seminary in coordination with faculty and staff, shaping culture and student experiences in ways that prepare graduates well for ministry.

  • Works with key stakeholders to support and incorporate academic, spiritual, and practical aspects of the seminary’s mission in curricular and co-curricular programming.

  • Assists in the development of strategic relationships with local pastors and churches to support internships and deployment of graduates for pastoral roles.

  • Teaches seminary courses in the areas of practical ministry and pastoral leadership.

What you need:

  • PhD or DMin from an accredited institution in practical theology, applied theology, or ministry.

  • 10 years combined teaching experience at the college level or in combination with church-based educational activities.

  • Demonstrated experience in developing strong relational and supportive networks with local pastors and churches.

  • Able to provide portfolio of experiences with local church and its activities as well as sample sermons, curriculum lessons, etc.

  • Must possess exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Must be able to affirm and teach in accordance with the university’s Doctrinal Statement, Ethical Positions Statement and the College of Theology Covenant.
