Grand Canyon University is seeking a full time Dispatch Supervisor for our Public Safety Department. The Dispatch Supervisor ensures the communications center is properly receiving and processing emergency and non-emergency calls, after-hours requests, monitoring computerized alarm and access control systems, providing police and EMS dispatch and radio communication management, performs a variety of general support duties related to the operation of the communications center.
This position must be able to work various shifts including; daytime, evening, night shifts and holidays.
What you will do:
Supervise the work of subordinate dispatch staff; assigns tasks, projects or areas of responsibility and organizes subordinates’ workload and priorities.
Ensure dispatchers are correctly relaying information for service by telephone and two-way radio and entering information into the records management system.
Maintain security personnel zone assignments and dispatches officers based on location in a timely manner to assist in deterring potential criminal activity and for emergency situations requiring security and police response.
Individually responsible for covering dispatch duties as needed.
Checks accuracy of records and reports
Ensure documentation of disturbances and incidents and communicates with local law-enforcements during emergency situations is accurate and/or handles personally.
Operate and oversee security command center; to include, monitoring CCTV systems, access control systems, digital alarm receivers, emergency notification systems and fire and burglary alarm systems.
Supervise communications center dispatch team.
Computer Aided Dispatch, Records Management System, Criminal Justice Information Systems terminals, computerized alarm monitoring systems, computerized access control systems or other computer or technical systems.
Other duties as assigned.
What you will need:
High school diploma OR GED required.
Associate degree from an accredited college/university in criminal justice, police science, public administration, political science preferred.
Minimum of 5 years’ work experience handling 911 calls at a Primary Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP), also known as a 911 Center, or a Secondary PSAP.
Minimum of 2 years in lead or supervisory role.
APCO Institute Public Safety Tele-Communicator Certification
Must have valid driver’s license and clean driving record and be able to successfully complete required training for ACJIS.
Must pass required background investigation.
