- Courses are in-person and on-campus for the Fall 2025 semester (09/02/2025 - 12/14/2025)
Course: Portfolio 1
This course requires students to research and build a self-marketing plan and curate a portfolio of work to use in a job search. Students examine their current work in order to accurately develop personal promotional assets, be introduced to design communities, identify industry networking opportunities, and begin to build a professional social network.
What You Will Do:
- Facilitate classroom lecture and discussions while incorporating innovative teaching strategies.
- Engage students in cutting-edge technologies and industry trends.
- Assess student performance and mentor classroom success to prepare them for their chosen career path.
- Provide a positive example to students by supporting the University’s Doctrinal Statement, Ethical Position Statement and Mission of Grand Canyon University.
What You Will Bring:
Education & Experience:
- bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, UX/UI, Motion Graphics, Advertising, Marketing, Communications, or a related field in the visual arts.
- master’s degree and 3+ years of experience in the design industry are preferred
Required Skills:
- Personal branding & marketing (including asset development and digital presence)
- Job acquisition skills (resume & cover letter writing, self-promotion)
- Design portfolio development
- Adobe Creative Cloud (desktop & mobile apps)
- Adobe Portfolio, Behance, LinkedIn, and social media for professional use
Relevant Job Titles:
- Graphic Designer
- Production Manager
- Art Director
- Creative Director
Technical Requirements:
- GCU does not provide software or hardware outside of campus classrooms.
- Candidates must be able to teach using the latest version of Adobe software.
- A portfolio of current work must be submitted with the application.
