GCU Facilities manages and services all university-owned property. By the development and maintenance of the GCU campus and surrounding areas, the GCU Facilities team aims to support and ensure the accomplishment of the university’s mission. By working creatively and collaboratively, the Facilities team fulfills the needs of the university by successfully managing resources while delivering excellent customer service.

Grand Canyon University is currently seeking a fulltime Electrical Crew Supervisor. Under general supervision, the Electrical Crew Supervisor performs master journey-level work in the installation, maintenance, inspection, modification, remodel and repair of electrical equipment and fixtures for power, lighting, and related electrical systems.

What you will do:

  • Planning, assigning, and scheduling electrical staff, preventative maintenance, and work orders. Inspects work activities.

  • Reviews and approves timesheets within time keeping system.

  • Makes personnel recommendations, such as hires, disciplinary actions, performance data, and terminations.

  • Communicates job expectations, monitoring and reviews job contributions, plans and adjusts compensation actions, and enforces staff policies and procedures.

  • Trains employees in specific methods and procedures to accomplish tasks and the proper operation of all equipment needed to perform tasks.

  • Allocates daily tools, supplies and/or equipment to ensure quality and timely of daily tasks/services.

  • May assist with inventorying of supplies and equipment.

  • Ensures all equipment utilized is in good working condition; makes recommendations for equipment repair and maintenance.

  • Performs daily operational tasks of crew members when needed. Ensures all crew members follow OSHA guidelines for performing daily work; ensures all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is utilized daily by all crew members.

  • Provides recommendations to management regarding operational improvements either in service delivery, substitutes for equipment or supplies which would improve both operational efficiency and operational expenses.

  • Provides recommendations to management to facilitate the use of environmental best practices in the maintenance and upkeep of GCU facilities, e.g., "green" solutions, reduction in energy usage, etc.

  • Must be able to read and interpret blueprints or schematics to ensure assembly or repair is accurate.

  • Must be considered as capable of performing journeyman level work for the skilled trade group, e.g., plumbing, HVAC, electrical services, etc.

  • Updates job knowledge by remaining current on codes and requirements, participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, and participating in professional organizations.

  • Other duties as assigned.

What you need:

  • High school education, or GED required.

  • Depending on the functional area of facilities, certification in specific industry standards may apply.

  • Minimum of 3 years’ related work experience with at least one year in lead role.

  • Must work weekends, holidays, overtime as required, and be "on call" on a 24 x 7 basis for emergency situations as needed.

  • Required to perform rotating weekly on-call shifts for after hour facilities emergencies.

  • Must have a valid driver’s license with clean driving record.

  • Must pass pre-employment background investigation.

  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to work cohesively with team members and facilities management.

  • Good verbal communication skills; ability to be clear and concise in providing information in relation to operation of any required equipment, safety regulations and best safety practices, priority deadlines, utilization of harsh/abrasive chemicals, work assignments/schedules; ensure information communicated is understood by all team members.

  • Knowledge of safety and security precautions and occupational hazards with a willingness to follow safety guidelines and/or precautions.

  • Ability to interact with all GCU personnel with friendly, positive attitude and ensure delivery of service meets expectations both individually and according to GCU standards; serve as model of behavior for all team members.

  • Ability to develop a supportive team environment by coaching, mentoring and guiding team members.

  • Ability to cope effectively with changing priorities and urgent deadlines as dictated by management; ability to manage multiple activities in a professional manner.

  • Ability to resolve problems by identifying issues and developing sound resolutions within decision making authority.

  • Willingness to work weekends, evenings, holidays as necessary.

  • This position requires a 40-hour work week schedule; also, may request over time as needed.
