The L.O.P.E.S. Academy is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Graduate Assistant to join the CHSS team to support a unique university program aimed at providing an empowering higher education experience and workforce development skills to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. As a Graduate Assistant, you will play a vital role in facilitating the program's activities, assisting participants with their university experience, and fostering their personal and professional development.

What you will do: 

  • Perform a variety of administrative tasks including preparation of Power Point presentations, data entry and analysis, web site development, collating marketing materials and presentations. 

  • Provide academic support to participants, including help with in-class assignments and projects.

  • Offer guidance and mentorship to participants in navigating university resources, events, and activities.

  • Maintain regular communication with program participants, their families, and relevant campus stakeholders.

  • Mentor L.O.P.E.S. Academy peer mentors on how to best guide and support their L.O.P.E.S. Academy participant through the university experience.

  • Monitor participants' progress during internships, offering guidance and support as needed, and facilitating communication with internship supervisors.

  • Responsible for planning and organizing the activities of an assigned program, project, unit or function and ensuring the activities’ infrastructure is in place. 

  • Develop and schedules program work plans in accordance with specifications and funding limitation; oversees daily operations and coordinates activities of programs and determines priorities. 

  • Partner and collaborate with various internal contacts, or customers, to coordinate activities, promote and encourage cooperation of submission or collection of information/data, products or services or process improvement. 

  • Manage the flow of activities and acts as liaison to all others involved in the operation. 

  • Other duties as assigned.

What you will need:

  • Experience working or volunteering in educational or community programs specifically designed for the neurodiverse population

  • Enrolled at GCU as a full-time student in a Master’s program

  • Retain a 3.0 GPA as a Master level student

  • Maintain good financial and academic (SAP) standing with the University

  • Provide a positive example to students by supporting the University’s Doctrinal Statement, Ethical Position Statement and Mission of Grand Canyon University.
