Course: Game Design

This course is an introduction to the conceptual thinking framework required for the conceptualization and design of games, whether analog or digital. This is not a programming or illustration course. Students will learn to understand game theory, present a game concept, why that concept will work with the audience, and what makes a compelling game for the user. Foundational digital tools will be introduced. 

What You Will Do:

  • Facilitate classroom lecture and discussions while incorporating innovative teaching strategies.
  • Engage students in cutting-edge technologies and industry trends.
  • Assess student performance and mentor classroom success to prepare them for their chosen career path.
  • Provide a positive example to students by supporting the University’s Doctrinal Statement, Ethical Position Statement and Mission of Grand Canyon University.

What You Will Bring:

  • Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree in game art, Game or Graphic Design, Film, Illustration, or other creative field, scriptwriting or a business degree with industry experience. OR bachelor’s degree in game development or other related STEAM field.
  • Minimum of 3 years working in the game design industry, broad skills in software used in the game industries including the Adobe Creative Cloud.
  • Required: Portfolio or case studies of game production projects worked on by the candidate.
    Knowledge of the game theory, mechanics, player motivation and the game marketplace; the game production pipeline, game creative direction, ability to manage a creative team.
    • Please include a summary of your practical work experience within the game entertainment market, including analog, digital, and mobile.
