Grand Canyon University is currently seeking a fulltime fire sprinkler fitter. The Fire Sprinkler Fitter is responsible for completing the service, repair, testing, inspection, and installation of automatic fire sprinkler systems in all types of structures.

What you will do:

  • Perform maintenance, repairs, tests, and inspections on wet, pre-action fire sprinkler systems, fire pumps, hydrants, special hazard, and related systems.

  • Troubleshoot and repair wet, pre-action fire sprinkler systems, fire pumps, hydrants, special hazard, and related systems.

  • Perform field, on-site, and bench inspections of backflow assemblies to ensure conformance to standards.

  • Test, inspect, diagnose, troubleshoot, install, disassemble, rebuild, repair, and clean backflow assemblies.

  • Advise and confer with university departments to schedule service shutdowns to inspect, test, and repair backflow assemblies.

  • Maintain records and logs of backflow assembly inspections, tests, and repairs.

  • Read and interpret blueprints and designs.

  • Assist Fire Alarm Technician with Fire Alarm inspections and repairs.

  • Select proper pipe, fittings, valves and related materials for layout, installation, and repair.

  • Perform cutting, fitting, and pipe connection using a variety of hand and power tools and material consumption does not exceed estimates or inventory distributed for work order.

  • Complete required daily paperwork, including work orders, inspection reports and safety documents.

  • Assist with fire sprinkler impairment permitting process.

  • Ensure all work complies with building and safety codes and environmental protection requirements.

  • Maintain a clean work site that could include sweeping, picking up loose materials, cleaning and organizing the work area and equipment.

  • Ensure all repair or installation work adheres to specifications required by manufacturer of system.

  • Ensure the timely and accurate completion of preventative maintenance activities.

  • Requisition necessary tools, equipment, and supplies.

  • Research new operational methods, techniques, and equipment and recommend their application.

  • Test, inspect, diagnose, troubleshoot, install, disassemble, rebuild, repair, and clean sprinkler systems.

  • Adhere to safety policies and procedures.

  • Other duties as assigned.

What you need:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.

  • Experience working as a pipe fitter.

  • NICET Level II or CSA Certified preferred.

  • Must have valid driver’s license.

  • Ability to pass background investigations.

  • Must be able to have flexible hours.

  • Willing to respond to emergency requests outside of normal work hours.

  • Willingness to work weekends, holidays, or extended hours as needed.

  • Must successfully pass a background check.

  • Proficient knowledge of general piping installation and ability to fabricate offsets and basic takeoffs.

  • Able to operate power machines such as core drill, groove, pipe cutter and pipe threader.

  • Must have sufficient knowledge of relevant building codes, legislation, regulations, policies and procedures installation and maintenance.

  • Must have working knowledge of NFPA 25 and NFPA 13.

  • Must be able to read and interpret blueprints and designs.

  • Must demonstrate a strong knowledge in the correct usage of tools, power tools, and equipment as related to fire sprinkler systems.

  • Must have the physical skills and endurance to move about campus and the buildings in order to fulfill daily tasks.

  • Must be familiar with, and follow, safety requirements and precautions.

  • Detail oriented with good troubleshooting skills.

  • Must be willing to operate work ticketing system and update to be able to inform status of work.

  • This position requires a 40-hour work week schedule; also, may request over time as needed.
