As a full-time Faculty member, you’ll provide program leadership and have the autonomy to create the curriculum used by both ground and online faculty leveraging innovative teaching methodologies and GCU’s unique learning management system that supports multi-modality learning. The Colangelo College of Business at Grand Canyon University is seeking a full-time Faculty member for Sports and Entertainment Management (open to all ranks). This position provides instruction that incorporates industry experience based upon an academic foundation. The college’s sports and entertainment management program is one of the largest majors in the college and has a thriving student club and support from an impressive industry advisory board. This position requires a unique combination of industry knowledge/expertise, teaching experience, academic perspective, and industry relationships within the area of sports and entertainment management and/or the business of entertainment.
PLEASE NOTE: This 9-month faculty contract will be based on our Main Campus in Phoenix, AZ. Expected start date is January of 2022.
Prepares and delivers lectures to undergraduate students within the prescribed curriculum created by the sports and entertainment faculty team.
Stimulates class discussions and facilitates learning in the on-ground classroom.
Assesses student performance in accordance with University Assessment Practices.
Fosters industry relationships to enhance the student experience and job placement; builds hiring pathways within the sports and entertainment business ecosystem.
Guides marketing, public relations, and admissions for the program.
Classroom lead for teaching and delivering sports and entertainment business content.
Remains current in the field of sports and entertainment business, the business of entertainment and effective teaching techniques.
Maintains a four-course teaching load each semester.
Participates in faculty and Colangelo College of Business meetings and College/University committee activities.
Performs other duties as directed by the Dean, Colangelo College of Business, centered on teaching, service, and scholarship.
Supports the integrity of the GCU mission, Christian world view, and educational learning outcomes.
Education and Experience:
Preferred: Doctoral level, such as DBA or PhD in Sports Business/Management; PhD in Sports & Entertainment Mgt; or JD in the Sport Law industry OR MBA/MS degree with emphasis in Sports and/or Entertainment
Minimum of three years documented post-secondary experience teaching business, sports business and/or entertainment business courses.
Five years industry experience in the sports and/or entertainment industry.
Areas of experience could include: sport/entertainment legal issues/topics, player/performer management, venue management, revenue generation/management, marketing of experiential events, the fan-experience, and aspects of data analytics.
Network of sports or entertainment industry relationships to provide student experience and student hiring/intern opportunities.
Provide a positive example to students by supporting the University’s Doctrinal Statement and Ethical Position Statements
