Shape the bright futures of Grand Canyon University students as a full time Program Director and Faculty member for a developing medical lab sciences degree. This position and program will be based in the traditional ground campus College of Science, Engineering and Technology in Phoenix. Through hands-on, project-based learning, the college provides an outlet for innovation and cross-disciplinary exposure. It features programs in Biology, Forensic Science, Chemistry, Environmental Science, and Exercise science, alongside degrees in Technology and Engineering.

As the Program Director, you’ll provide leadership to the medical lab sciences program, including initial accreditation and subsequent maintenance of accreditation and approval, in close collaboration with administration. As a Faculty member, you will incorporate innovative teaching methodologies, cutting-edge technologies and other industry trends reflecting advancements in your discipline. Faculty cultivate a supportive classroom environment, provide for the mentorship of students in our science programs, and have the opportunity to participate in faculty-driven research projects coupled to undergraduate student training.

We are currently hiring the Program Director for this new degree program in the College of Science, Engineering and Technology. The Program Director will also serve as a member of the Faculty, who normally teach 4-5 undergraduate sections per term and provide student support and service to the College and University. This is a 12-month position that starts in August 2021. The Program Director will be responsible for initial and ongoing accreditation processes for the program; other responsibilities include teaching, both in the medical lab sciences program and in coursework subserving other science and allied health majors, and providing other programmatic and student support for the major.  Please attach a complete CV and a 1-3 page Teaching Statement. Your Teaching Statement must include a brief summary of the coursework you are prepared to teach and your experience with such, and a description of your experience and vision regarding the teaching and mentorship of students from diverse backgrounds.

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include leading the program through initial design and accreditation via NAACLS; providing for ongoing accreditation and approval by overseeing program organization, administration, instruction, evaluation, continuous quality improvement, curriculum planning and development, directing faculty/staff within the program, and the general effectiveness of the program; and preparing students to be successful leaders in their chosen profession. This is a 12-month position.  Other main responsibilities include the following:

  • Direct, manage, and oversee all accreditation and program processes, in close collaboration with administration.
  • Participate in budget preparation for the program.
  • Complete a minimum of 36 hours of documented continuing professional development every 3 years.
  • Teach courses within the medical lab science major and within the college (preferably, introductory chemistry/general chemistry).
  • Assist students outside classroom hours.
  • Stay current on topics and practices related to the discipline
  • Participate in curriculum design & development.
  • Actively support college/university mission and initiatives.
  • Actively participate on college and/or university committees
  • Assist the Dean in developing internal and external communities that promote the major field of study, college, and University.
  • Provide leadership to other program faculty.
  • Compliance with all college and University policies.
  • Willingness to assume other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's or Doctoral degree in Chemistry, Life Sciences; or a Masters or Doctoral degree in another field and skills or experience sufficient for the post-secondary teaching of chemistry, life sciences, or medical lab sciences.
  • Current ASCP-BOC or ASCPi-BOC generalist certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Technologist.
  • One year of professional experience in medical laboratory science.
  • Three years of teaching experience.
  • Familiarity with web-enhanced instructional tools such as Angel/Blackboard/Loudcloud
  • Ability to articulate a clear understanding of values-based education from a Christian perspective
  • Strong communication, time management and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated teamwork, self-motivation, integrity, and commitment to maintaining high professional standards.
  • Provide a positive example to students by supporting the University’s Doctrinal Statement, Ethical Position Statement and Mission of Grand Canyon University.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Five years of professional experience in medical lab sciences.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of education methods and administration as well as current NAACLS accreditation procedures and certification procedures.
  • Five years of teaching experience at the post-secondary level, that includes teaching courses, conducting and managing learning experiences, evaluating student achievement, providing input into curriculum development, policy and procedure formulation, and evaluation of program effectiveness.
