Make a Difference at Grand Canyon University
This position teaches undergraduate mathematics courses to students in all majors, facilitates classroom discussions, and assesses student performance. In addition, this position is part of a team defining best practices in mathematics and statistics pedagogy and researching Scholarship in Teaching and Learning (SoTL). Courses taught include: Calculus, Probability and Statistics, Higher Geometry, Applied Linear Algebra, Differential Equations, and Mathematical Modeling.
Please note: This is a 9-month Faculty position based at GCU's Main Campus located off of 33rd Ave. and Camelback Rd. in Phoenix, Arizona.
The start date for this position is August 22, 2022.
Responsibilities:
Teaches undergraduate math courses within the major, and general education courses.
Assists students outside classroom hours (15 hours per week).
Provides leadership and mentorship to adjunct faculty.
Stays current on topics and practices related to the discipline and best practices in pedagogy.
Actively supports college/university mission.
Active engagement in professional development activities.
Compliance with all college and University policies.
Willingness to assume other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Ability to use different teaching methods and to transmit information in a manner which is accessible and comprehensible to students.
Strong analytical skills including ability to think synthetically and analytically with the ability to communicate complicated information in a comprehensible manner.
Understanding of the various methods of adult learning, education deployment/delivery including distance education/online classrooms.
Strong communications skills and the ability to effectively mentor and guide students.
A respect for and ability to work with students.
Ability to navigate Instructional tools, overhead projectors, computer assisted presentations, web based tools such as Loud Cloud.
Ability to articulate a clear understanding of values based education from a Christian perspective.
Strong ability to compose written communications (when necessary in APA format) in a manner which ensures collective understanding.
Strong understanding of student assessment of learning outcomes and how instructional efforts support the learning outcomes.
Demonstrates integrity and ethical behavior congruent with GCU’s pillars and mission with a commitment to Christian ideals and philosophy.
Participation in and/or support of the university’s programs in all areas including an evident congruence with the philosophy and direction of the institution, and service to the community.
Demonstrates through example the active support of the University’s Doctrinal Statement, Ethical Position Statement and Mission of GCU.
Ability to develop collaborative and cooperative relationships with committees, colleagues, faculty and administration.
Proficiency with MS Office Suite, databases, and routine office software (email, internet, etc.).
Provide a positive example to students by supporting the University’s Doctrinal Statement, Ethical Position Statement and Mission of Grand Canyon University.
Required Qualifications:
Master’s degree in mathematics, applied mathematics, statistics, or similar, from a regionally accredited institution with 18 graduate credits in mathematics.
2-3 years higher education teaching experience in a closely related field.
Ability to learn and use learning management system and mathematical software, such as MATLAB/Simulink, MyMathLab, Aleks, or Microsoft Excel.
Ability to articulate a clear understanding of values-based education from a Christian perspective.
Preferred Qualifications:
Doctoral degree in mathematics, applied mathematics, statistics, mathematics education, or similar, from a regionally accredited institution with at least 18 graduate credits in mathematics.
3-5 years higher education teaching experience in a closely related field.
Familiarity with higher education, curriculum planning, best teaching and administrative practices; or a record of excellence in teaching.
Understanding of the various methods of adult learning, education deployment/delivery including distance education/online services and classroom.
Desire to integrate mathematical modeling principles into undergraduate mathematics courses.
