Make a Difference at Grand Canyon University

Grand Canyon University is currently seeking a 9-month, full-time faculty member to support the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS) with the instruction of English Writing and Secondary Teaching English Education Preparation courses. As a full-time Faculty member, you’ll provide program instruction incorporating innovative teaching methodologies, cutting-edge technologies, and other industry trends reflecting advancements in your discipline. Courses taught include: Methods for Teaching Literature for Secondary Education, Methods for Teaching Writing, Grammar, and Linguistics for Secondary Education and Composition I & II.

Please note: This is a 9-month Faculty position based at GCU's Main Campus located off of 33rd Ave. and Camelback Rd. in Phoenix, Arizona.

The start date for this position is August 22, 2022.

Responsibilities:

  • Teaches one or more subjects within prescribed curriculum.

  • Prepares and delivers lectures to students. Stimulates class discussions.

  • Compiles bibliographies of specialized materials for outside reading assignments.

  • Provides direction to instructional assistants including norming and training in writing instruction.

  • Compiles, administers, and grades examinations.

  • Remains current with new trends and development in his/her field of expertise.

  • Required to maintain the equivalent of a four course load.

  • Student classroom load will be assigned based upon teaching qualifications and demonstrated classroom facilitation.

  • Willingness to assume other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:?

  • Experience teaching courses in developmental writing.

  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching across multiple modalities.

  • Demonstrated engagement in the integration of Christianity with the discipline of English Rhetoric and Composition.

  • Willingness to work with colleagues at the department, college, and university levels (e.g., course development, serving on committees when selected or elected, attending meetings, advisement of development or revision of majors and minors in field of study, etc.).

  • A respect for and ability to work with students.

  • Evidence of involvement in one’s professional area (e.g. membership in professional organizations, presentations, research, and/or publications.

  • Participation in and/or support of the university program in all areas including an evident congruence with the philosophy and direction of the institution, and service to the community.

  • Familiarity with web enhanced instructional tools such as Angel/Blackboard/WebCT.

  • Ability to articulate a clear understanding of values-based education from a Christian perspective.

  • Strong communication, time management and organizational skills.

  • Demonstrated teamwork, self-motivation, integrity, and commitment to maintaining high professional standards.

  • Provide a positive example to students by supporting the University’s Doctrinal Statement, Ethical Position Statement and Mission of Grand Canyon University.

Education:

  • Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in English with emphasis in rhetoric and composition or English education.

  • One year of instructional experience at the post-secondary level.

  • Preferred Qualifications:

  • Doctorate in English with emphasis in rhetoric and composition or English education.

  • Two years of instructional experience at the secondary and/or post-secondary level, that includes teaching English education courses, conducting and managing learning experiences, evaluating student achievement, providing input into curriculum development, policy and procedure formulation, and evaluation of program effectiveness.
