The Director of the Doctorate in Counseling Education and Supervision assumes authority, responsibility, and accountability for the implementation of the counseling work education/curriculum. This position reports to the Assistant Dean of Counseling and collaborates with other college management. We are especially seeking applicants who can enhance the diversity of our academic community and effectively integrate faith within our educational framework. Interested individuals are encouraged to apply for the position of Director of School Counseling within the College of Humanities and Social Sciences.

What you will do: 

  • Serves as the director for the College’s Doctorate in Counselor Education and Supervision (CES) program and core full-time faculty with a teaching load.

  • Establishes operational policies and procedures for the CES program. Strategically coordinates with the assigned supervisory dean and other college leadership on decisions impacting the college and CES program.

  • Contributes to overall college leadership, serves as the liaison between CHSS and CDS, and attends meetings as requested/required.

  • Assists with responding to inquiries regarding the CES program; handles escalated issues and external stakeholders, reviews appeals, etc.

  • Supports adherence to CACREP standards and policies; leads and supports CACREP accreditation process.

  • Works collaboratively with GCU and GCE operational partners to assure program improvements, student success, faculty excellence, curricula development, and adherence to state regulations and accreditation requirements.

  • Collaborates with the College of Doctoral studies and other stakeholders to support doctoral student residencies, dissertation processes, and graduation needs. Contributes to training and supervision of doctoral chairs and committee members.

  • Responsible for the coordination of practicum and internship experiences and faculty support/development in designated counselor education program(s).

  • Makes recommendations for hire of credentialed faculty and staff necessary to support the program.

  • Mentors full time and adjunct faculty approved to teach within the CES, CMHC and SC programs.

  • Participates in college/university committees and professional activities that enhance the field of counseling, academic program(s), the college, and the university.

  • Perform administrative and other duties as assigned.

What you will need:

  • Doctoral degree in Counselor Education and Supervision preferably from a CACREP-accredited program.

  • Maintain an active independent license in counseling.

  • Maintain an active membership to a recognized professional counseling association (American Counseling Association, ACA preferred).   

  • Show evidence of ongoing advocacy/professional service, research, or scholarly activities in counseling.

  • Knowledge and experience of CACREP standards, policies, and the accreditation process.

  • Experience in a leadership position within the field of counseling. 

  • Must successfully pass a background check. Provide a positive example to students by supporting the University’s Doctrinal Statement, Ethical Position Statement and Mission of Grand Canyon University.
