Career Services at Grand Canyon University provides you with resources, professional knowledge and support to help you transition from academics into a career you may find rewarding. Career Advisors will help students develop vocational plans and goals and leverage available resources to achieve career success. They work in a fast-paced environments delivering advising services on a year-round basis in both one-on-one and group settings.
Schedule: 8am to 5pm with some flexibility for early mornings, evenings, or weekends to support career activities

What You Will Do:
Provide career advising services to students in individual, group, or classroom settings which includes activities such as resume, cover letter and personal statement development, interviewing techniques and strategies, job search techniques (including exploring internship, employment, and graduate school options), and overall career exploration to help students create vocational plans aligned to the skills, values and interests outlined in their Purpose Plan using the university-approved systems.
Manage designated student population according to established annual metrics to ensure active guidance of their Purpose Plan and document interactions in requisite database for follow up and tracking purposes and prepare regular reports including departmental and college-specific dashboard information.
Stay current on topics and practices related to graduate school admissions and job market, resume, interviewing, the use of social media for professional job hunting/networking, and other workforce/industry trends.
Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders to assist with University initiatives and events which promote student academic and career achievement.
Handle other duties as assigned which contribute to the success of the university overall and the Career Services department.
What You Will Have:
Systems and Software: MS Office Suite, Zoom, MS Teams, Google Classroom, University academic and career development technology, social media platforms, and additional systems as needed. Ability to quickly learn designated college programs and career opportunities and to be able to provide informed information to students. Ability to establish and maintain recordkeeping/databases systems, retrieve information, and prepare reports, graphs, charts, and metrics.
Work Style: Capable of working independently without direction or oversight. Knowledge of planning and organizational practices to ensure smooth operations and to meet deadlines. Good relationship management skills and ability to work cohesively in a team environment requiring good social and interpersonal skills. Meticulous with a keen attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy while working on multiple projects at one time. Ability to cope with changing priorities, rolling deadlines and a fast-paced environment effectively. Capacity to handle sensitive situations with students who may need both professional and academic support; ability to engage the appropriate resources if a student has an issue outside of the scope of Career Services.
Communication and Presentation: Work involves frequent communications to relay information, recommendations, suggestions, recommendations, interpretations of data, and/or instructions to or with users, management, staff, team members using a variety of means such as telephone, one-on-one and group meetings, web conferencing, mobile devices (texting/IMing) and other means as available with technology. Strong public speaking skills with an ability to connect with diverse audiences. Distinct ability to ask open-ended questions, actively listen and construct meaningful responses to assess student career interests and needs. Outstanding communications skills, including verbal and written with a good command of the English language.
Supervision: Collaborates with department program managers and director on the hiring, scheduling, and support of student workers. May have daily oversight of student workers if needed to handle administrative tasks in achieving Career Services goals.
Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree required from a regionally accredited institution. Minimum one year work experience in a higher education setting in a role which assists students in career planning/advising and coordinating of available support resources.
Must Haves: Ability to thoroughly understand and abide by federal and university guidelines regarding student confidentiality requirements. Must be willing to work, when necessary, beyond normal business hours which may include evenings, weekends, or holidays. Must be able to demonstrate through appropriate behavior, a positive example to students by supporting the University’s Doctrinal Statement, Ethical Position Statement and Mission of Grand Canyon University.
