Job Description

Grand Canyon University's College of Humanities and Social Sciences is seeking a Bachelor of Social Work Program Chair. The Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) Program Chair is a 12 month faculty position with academic and administrative responsibilities. The Program Chair is responsible and accountable to the Director of Social Work for the planning, development, and administration of the undergraduate BSW program. The position will include academic instruction with course release for administrative duties.

Responsibilities:

  • Leads and supports the CSWE accreditation process.

  • Adheres to and provides support for CSWE standards and competencies.

  • Takes a leadership role in course curriculum development, providing curriculum oversight in collaboration with the Curriculum Design and Development department.

  • Provides year-round leadership to support operational policies and procedures of the BSW program.

  • Responds to inquiries regarding the BSW program.

  • Coordinates undergraduate needs with the Field Education Coordinator and other administrative personnel.

  • Works collaboratively with other university departments involved in the BSW program.  

  • Provides input and makes recommendations regarding the development of and expenditures from the assigned program budget.

  • Works with Marketing personnel to ensure the BSW Program website is up to date and accurate.

  • Mentors other full-time and adjunct faculty.

  • Teaches assigned Social Work courses.

  • Assist in other duties as assigned.

All Candidates must:

  • Have working knowledge and experience of CSWE standards and the accreditation process.

  • Maintain an active license.

  • Demonstrate scholarship experience.

  • Have outstanding communication skills and the ability to successfully adapt to a ground and an e-learning environment.

  • Be willing to work in an accelerated learning format, and work in an e-learning environment with students on a daily basis.

  • Be available to provide 24-hour turnaround responses to student questions and concerns.

  • Role model the University's Doctrinal Statement, Ethical Position Statement and Mission of Grand Canyon University.

  • Provide a positive example to students by supporting the University’s Doctrinal Statement, Ethical Position Statement and Mission of Grand Canyon University.

Education and Experience:

Minimum:

  • Master’s degree in Social Work

  • Active Social Work License

  • At least three years of experience practicing social work

  • At least two years of experience teaching in a higher education environment

  • Experience in an academic leadership and/or supervisory role.

Preferred:

  • Doctoral degree in Social Work

  • Active Social Work License

  • At least three years of experience practicing social work
