Grand Canyon University is seeking an individual to perform daily low voltage tasks and contribute to the completion of various low voltage projects. These tasks include cable pulling, cable termination, building equipment racks, swapping and racking equipment, mounting televisions, projectors, speakers, and other technical equipment.


What you will do:

  • Install, repair, maintain, troubleshoot, and perform perm testing activities on various cable and equipment related to cable connection misfunction.

  • Pull cables through physical structures such as walls, overhead, above drop ceilings, and in the ground.

  • Terminate various cables, including Cat6, RG6, RG11, speaker terminals, XLR, RCA, and other video types, using punch, crimp, and soldering tools.

  • Rack and integrate rack equipment for network switches, processors, amplifiers, power supply units, and battery backups units.

  • Hang, mount, and relocate televisions and LED displays.

  • Install and remove classroom equipment, including projectors, projector screens, speakers, podium equipment, and any other audio-visual equipment.

  • Complete work orders such as connecting and moving devices, installing cable, and troubleshooting wires that do not provide signals to equipment.

  • Collaborate with facility crew members for office moves, cubicle setup, and new employee locations to perform low voltage-related work.

  • Collaborate with events crew members for event-related and broadcast-related needs to perform low voltage-related work.

  • Support other various actions and activities as directed by the campus technology department and the campus as a whole.

  • May be required to move on-site equipment, tools, furniture, and other materials exceeding 50 pounds.

  • May be required to maneuver around small areas such as attics, crawl hatches, and other confined spaces for cabling.

  • May be required to climb ladders, work on power lifts, or climb scaffolding to complete work orders.

  • Must possess the ability to distinguish different colors, read small print, and hear and recognize audible signals.

What you need:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a low voltage-related work environment, such as an AV integrator, cable or ISP service installer, or commercial cabling firm

  • Ability to work on ladders and scaffolding to install cables

  • Must be able to distinguish colors

  • Ability to test and identify equipment and cable functionality.

  • Able to operate required hand tools, power tools and low voltage test equipment.

  • Able to troubleshoot electronic systems and equipment under pressure.

  • Precise attention to detail.

  • Able to troubleshoot malfunction in equipment or cable and problem solve.

  • Must be able to complete work orders timely and accurately.

  • Effective communications and interpersonal skills.
