Course: Advanced Typography
This studio-intensive course introduces a new dimension to typographic foundations through the inclusion of motion and interactivity in type. Students learn how to source web-compliant typography for inclusion in their own creative, strategy-driven design projects. Students explore grids, hierarchy, style, contrast, and basic animated transformations.

- Facilitate classroom lecture and discussions while incorporating innovative teaching strategies.
- Engage students in cutting-edge technologies and industry trends.
- Assess student performance and mentor classroom success to prepare them for their chosen career path.
- Provide a positive example to students by supporting the University’s Doctrinal Statement, Ethical Position Statement and Mission of Grand Canyon University.
What You Will Bring:
- Candidates should have a bachelor’s degree in communication arts, graphic design, illustration, animation, or other related discipline.
- A Master’s degree AND
- 5 or more years’ experience in the design industry is preferred.
- Industry-level knowledge of advanced design concepts with typography, including animated type used in social media and web products, multi-media digital content, font management, page design and composition, and design and production of single and multi-page products.
- Understanding of ink on paper and pixels on screen production requirements including color model, resolution, file format, file size, aspect ratios, and file prep and distribution are required.
- Industry-level knowledge of Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Behance, and Creative Cloud Libraries is required.
- Job titles that fit the criteria: Graphic Designer, Production Artist, Production Manager, Art Director, Creative Director, Illustrator.
Technical Requirements: GCU does not provide software or hardware outside of the campus classrooms. Candidates are expected to be able to teach on the most current version of the Adobe software products. A portfolio of current work examples is required with the application to teach.
