Grand Canyon University is seeking a new Academic and Career Excellence Advisor (ACE Advisor). Major responsibility of this role is student advising around the Purpose Plan which helps guide students in exploring and planning their academic and career paths aligned to their values, skills, and interests.

Advisors will help students develop academic and career plans and goals, and leverage available resources to achieve academic success. They work in a fast-paced, drop-in and appointment-based office setting delivering advising services on a year-round basis in both one-on-one and group settings.

What you will do:

  • Meet with students one-on-one or in group settings to advise on academic, graduate school, and career success plans.

  • Provide career advising services to students which includes activities such as resume and cover letter development, interviewing techniques and strategies, job search techniques,  and overall career exploration.

  • Assist students in exploring internships and employment opportunities that match their Purpose Plan in collaboration with the Strategic Employer Initiatives & Internships department.

  • Coach students on how to leverage career success tools.

  • Prepare regular reports including departmental and college-specific dashboard information.

  • Conduct workshops in ACE Centers and/or classroom presentations at the request of faculty on various academic, graduate school prep, and career topics such as study skills, resume writing, interviewing, developing personal statements, networking, etc.

What you need:

  • Bachelor’s degree required from a regionally accredited institution.

  • Minimum one-year work experience in a higher education setting in a role which assists students in academic planning, academic advising and coordinating of available support skills and ability to work cohesively in a team environment requiring good social and interpersonal skills.

  • Distinct ability to ask open-ended questions, actively listen and construct meaningful responses to assess student academic and career interests and needs.

  • Outstanding communications skills, including verbal and written with a good command of the English language.

  • Meticulous with a keen attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.

  • Strong public speaking skills with an ability to connect with diverse audiences.
