Job Description

Grand Canyon University's Office of Welcome Programs is seeking a Front Desk Coordinator.  This position is responsible for coordination of program activities which may include logistics, marketing and communications and on-site event participation.


  • Plan and coordinate all assigned event/program-related activities to ensure successful programs.
  • Support New Student Orientation, Orientation Groups, Family Weekend, Welcome Week, Spring Welcome and other programs in any way needed.
  • Present a professional and welcoming image for the office lobby, greeting and directing guests, faculty, staff and students. Coordinate and oversee projects related to office inventory, scheduling, aesthetic and beautification.
  • Maintain accurate record of expenses and successfully reconcile monthly budget records. Prepare expense reports and submit for management approval, and collaborate with Accounting as needed for necessary expense details and adjustments.
  • Initiate and coordinate events, programs, and initiatives to maximize staff and student morale within the office.
  • Maintain timely and accurate communication with guests and staff or students outside the office, either in-person or via phone, email, social media, text message or direct mail.
  • Collect and analyze data through a variety of means (e.g., surveys, focus groups) to provide feedback for management in assessing the effectiveness of programs/activities.
  • Provide ongoing programmatic recommendations to improve/update programs through active efforts of maintaining awareness of current trends in student development, university orientation and learning programs and cultural engagement.
  • Perform other administrative activities such as preparing reports, answering phones, filing, data entry, photocopying, collating materials, etc.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution. 
  • Must pass a pre-employment background investigation.
  • Exemplary planning and organization skills and good attention to detail.
  • Ability to develop effective and harmonious relationships with students/individuals of diverse and cultural backgrounds.
  • Strong communications skills, particularly interpersonally and via email.
  • Cooperative, collaborative and inclusive team player.
  • Ability to project a professional representation of the University at all times.
  • Ability to cope and adapt to changing priorities, work in a fast-paced environment and under stressful conditions to meet deadlines and schedules.
  • Good critical thinking and problem resolution skills.
  • Computer proficient including MS Office Suite, internet, social media, and email services.
  • Flexibility to work varying schedules including evenings, holidays and weekends when necessary.
  • Must pass a pre-employment background investigation.
  • Provide a positive example to students by supporting the University’s Doctrinal Statement, Ethical Position Statement and Mission of Grand Canyon University.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Working in higher education setting in high volume activity related to student orientation or student engagement.
  • Knowledgeable about principles of student development.
