Grand Canyon University is seeking a full time Landscaping Equipment Mechanic. This position performs routine maintenance, repairs, troubleshooting and rebuilding of small equipment engines including mowers, weeding machines, chain saws, power clippers, forklifts, pumps and generators, sweepers, blowers, golf carts, gators and other Facilities department equipment, motors and engines both electric and gas powered.

Responsibilities: 

  • Inspects, diagnoses and locates mechanical malfunctions on a variety of small equipment motors and engines; repairs or replaces faulty or worn parts; removes and replaces, wheels, tires and tubes, rotates tires to ensure proper wear, greases and lubricates equipment and services batteries and other parts; tunes or overhauls as needed; tests and replaces electrical components and wiring; inspects for loos or worn parts, hydraulic leaks, exhaust leaks and makes or recommends appropriate repairs.
  • Provides regular maintenance to other larger equipment such as the Ditch Witch including oil change, filter change, hose replacement and other small repair or maintenance.
  • Performs hydrostatic repairs to mowers and other equipment; inspects mower blades for proper wear and alignment; steam cleans, lubricates, replaces, repairs, sharpens and related mechanical parts and equipment.
  • Prepares and maintains repair records and reports and facilities warranty service when applicable.
  • Assists vehicle maintenance staff on complex tasks or priority assignments; performs minor repairs/replacement of parts on automotive equipment and other minor mechanical duties under supervision.
  • Purchases or recommends and assists in the purchase and acquisition of the needed tools, parts and equipment under supervision and maintains inventory of necessary parts.
  • Ensures equipment and/or parts are properly and safely stored following required precautions and protocols.

Qualifications:

  • High School completion preferred, or the equivalent
  • Must have valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • One year directly related work experience.
  • Knowledge of the proper care, maintenance and repair of two and four cycle internal combustion engines.
  • Must have knowledge of tools, equipment, materials, methods and procedures used in the troubleshooting, diagnosis, overhaul, maintenance, repair, rebuild and adjustment of small engine.
  • Knowledge of the proper care, maintenance and repair of two and four cycle internal combustion engines.
  • Knowledge of the methods, materials and equipment used in mower blade adjustment and blade sharpening.
  • Must be able to estimate time and the cost of repairs.
  • Forklift certification preferred.
  • Formal training in automotive, hydraulic, small engine repair and maintenance is helpful.
