Make a Difference at Grand Canyon University

Shape the bright futures of Grand Canyon University students as a full time Faculty member for the traditional ground campus in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, which provides a job focused education.  The college features a variety of programs from counseling and psychology to justice studies, history and English literature. Our Full Time Spanish instructor position is a 9 month faculty contract and will start on August 13, 2018.

As a full-time Faculty member, you’ll provide program instruction incorporating innovative teaching methodologies, cutting-edge technologies and other industry trends reflecting advancements in your discipline.  If you are highly motivated and passionate about teaching exceptional quality instruction in modern facilities with smaller class sizes, we’d like to hear from you. 

Responsibilities:

Teaches undergraduate Spanish courses to general education population, facilitating classroom discussions, assessing student performance, instructing students from diverse programs through general education courses and preparing students to be successful leaders in their chosen profession. Other main responsibilities include the following:

  • Teaches undergraduate courses within the major.
  • Assists students outside classroom hours.
  • Stays current on topics and practices related to the discipline and best practices in pedagogy.
  • Assists administration in driving curriculum design & development.
  • Works with University leadership on strategic planning initiatives advancing mathematics education and pedagogy.
  • Develops and administers forward-thinking short and long term learning plans for students’ development and growth.
  • Provides vision and leadership promoting consensus building and collaboration.
  • Mentors undergraduate majors in mathematics for secondary education, humanities, and social science.
  • Fosters and promotes diversity and collegiality among faculty, students, and staff and is an advocate for change.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with professional contacts to support internship programs, project collaborations and mentoring.
  • Actively supports college/university mission and initiatives.
  • Actively participates on college and/or university committees.
  • Assists the Dean in developing internal and external communities that promote the major field of study, general education programs, college, and University.
  • Provides leadership and mentorship to adjunct faculty.
  • Active engagement in professional development activities.
  • Compliance with all college and University policies.
  • Required to maintain the equivalent of a four course load (12 credit hours)
  • Willingness to assume other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Spanish required; PhD preferred.
  • At least one year of instructional experience at the post-secondary level.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Familiarity with web enhanced instructional tools such as Angel/Blackboard/WebCT/LoudCloud.
  • Ability to articulate a clear understanding of values-based education from a Christian perspective.
  • Strong communication, time management and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated teamwork, self-motivation, integrity, and commitment to maintaining high professional standards.
  • Familiarity with web enhanced instructional tools such as Angel/Blackboard/WebCT/LoudCloud.
  • Ability to articulate a clear understanding of values-based education from a Christian perspective.
  • Strong communication, time management and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated teamwork, self-motivation, integrity, and commitment to maintaining high professional standards.
  • Provide a positive example to students by supporting the University’s Doctrinal Statement, Ethical Position Statement and Mission of Grand Canyon University.
