Alumni Engagement Director
Grand Canyon University is seeking a new Alumni Engagement Director. We’re seeking an energetic, highly motivated, results-driven professional to develop and manage alumni engagement programs focused on increasing the depth and diversity of alumni relationships in support of the University. Recruitment and management of nationwide alumni volunteer leadership for targeted geographic, academic and affinity group programs that address the university and alumni engagement vision which includes increasing alumni participation in the life of the university through a variety of outreach efforts, events and volunteerism.
The Alumni Engagement Director is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive engagement program designed to provide meaningful opportunities for volunteerism, service, personal and professional development, and events and programs for alumni to enhance loyalty, dedication, and support for GCU. The Alumni Engagement Director oversees the planning and execution of alumni activities in targeted regions across the country and internationally to enhance alumni engagement and cultivate connections. The Alumni Engagement Director develops and maintains cooperative and collaborative relationships and programs with University units, such as Admissions, Career Services, Parent and Family Programs, Athletics, Student Affairs, and academic colleges and departments. The Alumni Engagement Director oversees the production and distribution of alumni communications and oversees online content on social media platforms directed to alumni.
- Responsible for all operations within the Office of Alumni Engagement, including assessing current and innovating future programs and activities, including communications, directed at alumni engagement and alumni professional education.
- Secure commitments from alumni to provide professional expertise and volunteer service Create and maintain pathways to alumni participation that advance the goals of the University; partnering with development colleagues to identify, cultivate, solicit possible future alumni donors.
- Develop and enhance geographic, academic and affinity group alumni programs and activities.
- Support the school’s need to develop a deeper base of alumni engagement that leads to additional philanthropic support, alumni assistance in key areas of the school including recruiting, placement, and programmatic support. Employ direct marketing approaches dependent on data-mining and market research to inform alumni relations strategy.
- Serve as a liaison between the Alumni and the academic and administrative leadership.
- Leads the alumni relations staff and provides the guidance and support necessary for their professional success and personal development.
- Organizes and directs alumni events, regional alumni meetings, and production of alumni publications.
- Recruits for and manages the Alumni Scholarships.
- Establishes, develops, builds and maintains effective relationships with a wide range of alumni, locally, regionally, nationally and internationally, through regular communication with alumni via direct contact, letter, phone calls, email blasts, alumni web pages, print publications, personal visits, alumni gatherings, receptions, and other events.
- Partner with Admissions, Student Affairs and Career Services to spearhead the introduction of alumni involvement in the admission referral process and plan the growth and accessibility of career networking services for students and alumni.
- Maintain alumni database records, capture contact, biographical and career information of alumni via surveys, projects, (e.g. alumni directory), correspondence, alumni website and through other GCU social media sites.
- Develop, direct and execute all administrative affairs of the Alumni Office including the development and maintenance of the office budget within the annual program budget.
- Develop and manage programs/activities among current GCU students and student organizations to provide linkage to alumni after graduation.
- Working within existing policy guidelines to establish and manage strategic alumni engagement plan that includes the ongoing development of a new virtual engagement platform, worldwide volunteer networks and activities, and an integrated communications cycle, with the goal of building affinity among alumni and with the school and increasing philanthropic and activity based support for the school.
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s preferred.
- Alumni Engagement experience highly preferred.
- A minimum of five years' experience in a post-secondary education environment.
- 4-5 years' leadership experience in a client centric membership organization.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement programs consistent with the alumni association strategic plan, and to ensure that programs effectively address agreed-upon objectives and priorities, operate within budget limitations, and comply with appropriate policies and procedures.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills are required, both written and oral, as well as high-level sophistication and maturity in social and professional settings.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects; flexible and comfortable in a fast-paced environment, with excellent follow through.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Access).
- Excellent written and verbal communication, project management, and highly effective presentation skills.
- High degree of comfort and cultural sensitivity working throughout the U.S. and internationally.
- Able to work weekends, nights and overnight travel.
